Double - 'Down-Seal' (Off-Ball)
An off-ball 'double down' seal is when both the point player and shooter on the strong-side (off-ball) seal their checks while the crease player runs high, filling into the shooter position and receiving a pass from the on-ball crease player for an open shot (Option #1).
The play is triggered with a pass from the weak-side shooter to the weak-side crease player and a down-pick on-ball. The crease player comes up to the mid-board soft spot (Option #3), with the picker rolling to the net (Option #4).
The player receiving the pass needs to already be running high before both seals lock in (anticipate), while the players sealing need to be crafty in order to trap other defenders behind the seal.
Whichever 'sealer' is lowest (closest to the net) after the crease player runs past them, should roll to the net as the secondary option (Option #2).
'Up-Seal' (Off-Ball)
An off-ball 'double-up' seal is when both the shooter and then the crease player on the strong-side seal their checks from underneath (pushing them high). The point player simultaneously does a back-door cut low, receiving a pass for a shot 'in tight' on the goalie, perhaps a quick stick (Option #1).
Whichever 'sealer' is lowest (closest to the net) after the point player runs past them, should roll to the net as a secondary option (Option #2).
The play is triggered with a pass from the weak-side shooter to the weak-side crease player and a down-pick on-ball. The crease player comes up to the mid-board soft spot (Option #3), with the picker rolling to the net (Option #4).
